PI’s new F-141 Photonic Alignment System provides high throughput with 4 and 6 degrees of freedom motion for industrial test and assembly of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). This ultra-compact precision alignment system fits in a space of approximately 5 x 7 x 4 inches (width x length x height) and provides 40 mm of XYZ translation and 12 degrees of rotation about the optical axis, making it ideal for array alignment. Direct drive motors provide excellent acceleration, speed, and resolution, as well as exceptional long life. Crossed roller bearings and bent guides ensure precise guidance.

Optional 6-axis version

In addition to 2-, 3- and 4-axis versions, an optional pitch/yaw module allows full adjustment in all six degrees of freedom. Other configurations are available for applications with different optical axis orientations.

High performance alignment controller, industry leading scanning and alignment process

The system is controlled by an EtherCAT® based advanced multi-axis control system with high-speed signal analysis for on-board machine learning . Advanced scanning and alignment processes are embedded in the controller, improving performance and simplifying integration compared to software-based alignment algorithms running on the host.

Industry’s fastest time to first light detection and signal optimization

PI’s proprietary alignment algorithms deliver unparalleled performance with the industry’s fastest first light times and signal optimization up to two orders of magnitude faster than traditional methods. The system can manage all tasks in the field of photonics and fiber optic alignment, including simultaneous alignment in multiple degrees of freedom. Ultra-low noise electronics, PWM amplifiers, and an on-board 24-bit analog input for a high-bandwidth optical power meter enable stable and repeatable optical signal coupling in a variety of environments.
